Poertry Thursday

This week I chose the challenge of writing in the style of my favorite poet Mary Oliver. Picture each stanza in a diagonal format because blogger refused to allow it. I recently went camping and it was beautiful but very cold for ALS. Worth every moment ;)

A Walk Worth Taking

In fall,
into the forest
of tall pine,
and cedar,

I twirl, looking
to the tops
of their towers
and the windows

to the sky–
and I squint
as the sun
finds its way to my face

warming my body,
tiny fairies dance,
floating in the light,
never falling to the ground—

sweet aroma of pine,
green and
secret haven,
I know,

even as I feel
the exhilaration
my feet are cold my hands
begin to numb

and stiffen
becoming a nuisance—
as I head for
the car,

to warm up
surrounded by the
wondrous
change to fall.

There are so many beautiful lines here, I don't know where to start oooing and ahhing - just like when I read a Mary Oliver poem! You have done an beautifiul job of capturing the essence of autumn in the forest -

I squint
as the sun
finds its way to my face

warming my body,
tiny fairies dance,
floating in the light,
never falling to the ground -

All so, so lovely.
What lovely images for me on this early fall day :)

You're amazing! xxoo

Your images capture the freedom of the forest! I'll bet the poem works well in diagonal format, mimicing the twirling. I can picture the speaker twirling and looking up, breathing the green and secret in. If it wasn't raining, I'd go out and do it myself right now!

this is such a great poem, Tammy. and Mary Oliver is great, Susannah has shown me some of her work recently.
i could smell the forest as you said that and had some kind of memory flashback as i read it.
i really need to go to the forest soon, and smell the trees.
i am so pleased you had such a good time.

ahhhHHH Tammy, you take me back to where I grew up, back upon the hill and to my second family, the trees! I can vision them anytime I want and am nervous about something, like a root canal in the dentist chair! They bring me comfort every time!Trees are very important to me! oh, and about those fairies, are they tiny and white and fuzzy wuzzy looking? I saw one last week and hurried to take a picture but by the time I went back outside the fairy had flown away! and I'm sooooo Glad YOU have that sweet tyke, TK! He sure is a GIFT! xoxoxoo

I've had so much trouble getting blogger blogs to load for me today and this was my last try before I head off to bed - it was worth the wait. Both the photo and the poem are just lovely and do a great job of evoking a M.O. kind of mood.

Beautifully done! Glad you had a good time camping - even though cold, it gives you even more reason to snuggle up in the sleeping bag, though ;-)
Loved that photo of you two.

Thank you, beautiful, especially thank you for a smell. There's not enough to stimulate my nose in verse ;-)
