Poetry Thursday- "The Den Fish"

The Den Fish
I enter your dark domain with my coffee
to warm the chill in the air
I see you everyday
hanging there
staring with
your one
glass
eye

I try to ignore your enormity, looming over
my hopes of inspiration
hoping you know
I did not steal
your dignity
as silver
scales
yellow

You were once free to swim the lake with
carefree abandon but now
you are a trophy
passed down
mounted
looking
to be
free

This week we were to go into a room where we spend most our time. Latch on to the first thing you see and use it for inspiration on Poetry Thursday. My husband's very "manly" den is where I blog and to show you how "manly" I added pictures. In our next house I get a den in honey/gold and antique country white beadboard.

Goodbye ole friend hanging in the den ;)

Tammy, loved the fish poem and vascillated between sympathy for the fish and sympathy for you, held in it's stare. My husband hunts, but we don't have any glassy eyed deer sharing our home. Whew! Was that a gun cabinet in the last photo? Yup, we've got one of them!

LOL--You and Marianne Moore! Your fishpoem should make you as famous! Great post.

Oh my, that's manly! Fortunately there are no hunting or fishing trophies in our house. Any hunting and fishing is done for food around here. And the gun cabinet is hidden away. Nice job with the poem

Good poem babe, it is like a old friend and I have been looking at it for almost 50 years, just like the dog painting hanging in the den.I am sure it will get set to ashes when I die and will finally be at rest.Love Dave

You are such a hoot Tammy! This poem is like making lemonade when given lemons. Hooray for you on your new den decor.

lemons, lemonaid- okay- but dead fish to poetry is a real feat. Yeah!

I liked your fish poem. Oh the delight you have to look forward to in a space designed just for you!! It should have star light all around the room.....or mirrors to reflect the star light that comes from YOU.
XOXO

Beautiful vacation shots in earlier posts.
That is one *manly* den alright. I love the direct address using "you" in the poem, and the line about the trophy seeking freedom. And visually, the poem is very pleasing to the eye.
I guess you're gearing up for NaNoWriMo...

Tammy, this was so nice. Out with the old, in with the new. Hoping your new den is a glowing haven.

What a fun poem! You are so good at making the ridiculous seem serious!

I hope you get your own den really soon!

Loved the haiku - Yep, you're definitely in male territory there. Bet you can't wait for that new den!

I like the way you managed to make us see things both from your side (having to put up with the fish!) and the fish's side (being dead and all!).

I am in AWE that you could create such a cool poem from that creepy dead fish! YAY Tammy! You rock!! :-D

this is great, I love it! My Papa always mounted his fish like that, I didn't realize how much I missed it until I saw this post.

Wow, gal you have been really busy since I last stopped by. Keeping up with your blog is going to extend my Saturday coffee, I see. I also have a very ugly stuffed tarpon in my life...it is now relegated to the basement. I do not do dead animals very well.

It is such a gift to see yet another element of your life. And the music - your combinations are always perfect and bring such joy to me every morning. I'm going to be humming "Pray for the Fish" the rest of the day! LOVE the poem!

It is a manly den, especially with ol' glass eye. I didn't realize until I'd finished reading your poem, that he was real.

That is really just an extra large version of the mounted bass that sings and wiggles, isn't it?

Terrific poem - but I don't blame you for being happy to see the back of that fish! Your new place sounds much more amenable to inspiration. :) xo
