Poetry Thursday- Two Hearts
This year Dave and I are not exchanging gifts but instead putting what we would have spent on Christmas into the new house. We are writing each other poems this year and because Dave is restricted from reading my blog until after Christmas I'm posting my first draft for Poetry Thursday.
TWO HEARTS
I have given you my heart freely as
it beats inside your own, happily,
knowing it’s safe
beating in rhyme
with your own–
though it has been a gift
our blood flows fast
in currents of time.
Your heart never wavered.
You knew what you needed,
though your mind flashed
caution, with a red
neon sign, you ignored its plea.
You took my heart
captive, and with abandon,
and shed its tattered cover
with warmth and care.
As I stood bare,
my fears were silenced,
the sun began to rise
blinding all the grey,
and there you stood
covering me with light,
taking my heart to yours.

Beautiful! You might use these as Prologue and Epilogue to your book--yours first and Dave's at the end.
Happy Christmas, dear friend. Looking forward to next year. I have so appreciated your thoughts and your pictures this year.
I found that moving, Tammy - and Pepek has such a good idea, there. Happy Christmas. I hope you have a lovely time.
Very tender. I agree with Pepek about using it in your book.
(love you slide show photos too!)
that is so lovely and perfect for your sweetheart
This is a gorgeous poem, and will be a wonderful gift. I wrote my husband a poem for his birthday - I think its a great idea! Who needs another shirt or tie??? I'd rather have a poem any day!
That's a lovely gift for your husband!
That is just quite simply beautiful. The power of words. I just know he will LOVE it - it'll no doubt make him cry. Hope you like your poem too! What a lovely idea - so meaningful. Have a happy Christmas, both of you.
Oh, Tammy, what beautiful, tender words. I'm with Pepek, good prologue! And the most perfect Christmas gift.
What a wonderful idea for your exchange.
Your poem brought tears to my eyes, Tammy. It's so tender and loving...with gratitude. Sort of how you live your life, ya know?'
Love,
Nancy
Very romantic. In a good way.
I'm sure he'll love this! What a great idea - Brad wrote me a poem when we were dating but I've never written one for him. Hmmm . . . wonder if I could pull it off?
Oh, wonderful poem! So much love... ;)
Good stuff.
I haven't forgotten that I am going to send you the CD's! I need to send a few things to people. I have been lazy.
