Poetry Thursday - "The Body Knows"

The Body Knows

The body knows
when it’s time for life to burst forth
nesting in adrenalin high
racing to the finish line
water gushing
crowning glory

The body knows
when it’s time to blossom and grow
racing hormones reacting
stretching skin to curves
always searching
wanting more

The body knows
when something is not right inside
brain messages blocked
body fumbles to stay
weakening limbs
awakens faith

The body knows
When your time on earth is done
breathing begins to rattle
organs slither away
acceptance forced
eternity begins

Very thoughtful post. I liked it. Our bodies do know best.

Excellent post. Needed more than one reading.

Beautiful poem. Our bodies are really quite amazing. The way you accept your despite its current limitations, and still celebrate the wonders of the human body in this poem are truely an inspiration.

Tammy, this is such a powerful poem! Makes me feel silly for worrying about body image (in my poem). Well done, you!

Very hopeful poem about a body struggling against itself. I know well.

Very touching, Tammy- this phrase, "acceptance forced" really went straight to my heart. When my dad died, everyone said he was ready to go, but I am not so sure about that... I think it was more "acceptance forced"...
You are such an inspiration, Tammy...

This is such a true journey that you take us on here - from that beginning and invincibility to the inevitability of death. All so well said.

Geez, what would I ever, ever DO without you guys??? And all your bodies out there somewhere, breathing and eating and sleeping...and all your minds and ideas in here with me! Love you, Tammy, warts and all!

Good poem, too.

I really liked the nature of cycle in this, the beginning, the growing, the changing, the dying. Very nice.
