Poetry Thursday - "Image Inspiration"

This week we were asked to write a poem motivated by an image. I was getting a cup of coffee when I spotted this shot of us on the kitchen wall. It was taken at our rented house on Kauai watching the sunrise. The house was on the ocean so it was just us and our Kauai sunrise.

Kauai Sunrise

Every morning
the sun
would rise.
Lighting the sky

with sun rays
bursting through clouds
creating a path
at our feet

making us feel
it rose just for our pleasure
close enough to touch
as we watched the sun

paint the sky.
We had the best
seats in the house
watching the curtain rise

filling us with possibilities
of one more day.
How could we ever forget
that moment we became

a part of a sunrise.

Oh, beautiful, beautiful. The words and the image. Beautiful.

I remember when you had this taken, I can't remember if my grandma took it or if my dad set it up. Anyway, it's one of my favorites and I love your poem. It's so great to be a part of nature!

Oh, and crunchy refers to granola eaters aka hippie like people. Being in Washington you can't help but be a bit of a tree huggeer.

Hugs

Don't you wish sometime that moments like that would be frozen like the picture?

I love the sweet slow pace of the poem.

Breathtakingly beautiful. I've never been to Hawaii, but maybe someday...

Such wonderful memories wrapped in your words.

that moment we came a part of a sunrise ...beautiful! I love how the poem shows the couple getting lost in the moment, watching and being a part of the theatre of nature. Bravo! JP

What a special photo, Tammy. What a wonderful memory...for you, AND for me.
We had the best vacation of our lives when we visited Hawaii. Heck, we almost moved there...seriously!
And your words, well, you know how I feel.

Love, Nancy

I love the commonality of our shared human experience as expressed here so beautifully. Sunset/Sunrises are one of my favorite things in all the world to see and never tire of.

How lovely. Makes me remember our trip to Hawaii about 20 years ago. I've never forgotten the sunrises or sunsets.

Thanks for visiting.

You know I never used to think of the sunrise as being as romantic as sunset, but you're changing my mind! This post - the poem and the image - it all fits together so perfectly - the dawn of a new relationship...this is beautiful, Tammy.

Tammy, I see you here and there--and with Claire--and just wanted to say that I love your fire and spirit. And to wish you a very happy belated birthday. That was a biggie!

p. s. Oh, it wasn't yours, was it? Didn't think you looked old enough! Well, happy un-birthday, as Lewis Carroll would say.

Don't you wish you could have stopped time at that moment?
That picture just made me sigh with pure pleasure at the thought of being there :)

And your poem...so elegantly lovely.

Everyone has said it all. I have stopped by many times to read - I hope you are doing well. The picture is better than any postcard and your words shared with us a tender and private moment - thank you.

What a beautiful image. I have to admit I'm not often up to watch the sunrise , but I enjoyed it vicariously with you.

This is so glorious - what a photo to treasure and to have it displayed prominently is a great idea - you can't help but be inspired. I love the words that go with it too. I am sure that the sunrise that day WAS just for you two !

Lovely - becoming part of sunrise.... When I lived in Malawi, we were just the same with the sunset over the lake.

Heartfelt, Tammy - I love it. I really like the haiga too - I'd not heard of that before.

Just been catching up, reading all the posts I can see. I was sorry to hear about your sinus infection - hope you're feeling a lot better now.

That is the moment you want to stop the world from turning. To have experiences like that get you through the bad stuff a little easier.

Made me wish to be there in one of those chairs, waiting for the sunrise, close enough to touch and be a part of. Nice!

I especially like this: "We had the best

And so you did.

Gorgeous poem! I felt I, too, became "a part of a sunrise" from reading your words.

And what a spectacular picture. It's so special that you captured the sunrise so beautifully.
