Sunday Scribblings - "Time is Slipin' Away"

One thing Dave and I have learned in our very short journey together is to not wait for what we want. We have responsibly raised our children and now it is our time. We want to go after our dreams and not keep waiting for "the right time" or "when we get the extra money." The right time is now and there is not usually extra money waiting in the mailbox. We don't do credit but instead we constantly move forward in baby steps toward our goals.

Dave will retire at 50 and we will figure out a nice living on less income. We will eventually live in our mountain home (the minute this one sells) surrounded by Dave's flowers. For my birthday I will fly across the country to Vermont to visit my blog buddy and fellow ALS warrior, Pam. Time goes by in the blink of an eye as we watch another season pass. We will figure out a way to fulfill our dreams now and not wait until time has slipped away. We are cautious by nature yet hold each other up to fight our way through the fear. Yes, we are motivated by my illness to hurry things along, but we don't want to waste another minute on "someday."

Tammy, I agree with you 100%! Elizabeth Kubler-Ross said, "If there are things you want to do, do them NOW." Wise words. And I am sooo excited that you are flying to Vermont for your birthday! I love you both, and I am really happy (an understatement) that the two of you are getting together! *high five*

That is one of the best attitudes to live life! WE all dwell on the future wasting away now. The now is iimportant.

Your posts are so positive. I like visiting you.

I fight the need for financial security all the time; it's a tough one to shake. But I agree with you wholeheartedly. I'm so glad you'll be visiting the east coast and then back to settle into your new home.

I'm always at war with not wanting to let life slip away, yet trying to remain practical. Thanks for your words of inspiration to remind me just what a slippery devil time can be for all of us :)

Hi Tammy! I love your passion for life and the way you embrace the present moment! What a wonderful teacher and inspiration you are, Tammy. And your mountain home with Dave's flowers sounds so incredibly beautiful and special -- so does your trip to Vermont.

You are so wise, my friend

You are wise, I am in the midst of trying to 'help' my husband see it the same way. Congratulations for having the gumption to live your dream.

I wish I could remember who it was that I read was quoted as saying something like "I've never regretted the things I've done in my life, only the things I haven't done." Reading that was a sort of "wow" moment for me. It sounds to me like you and Dave are facing life with exactly the right point of view.

I seriously have no doubt you will get what you want. You're already half way there and then some!

Tammy - You and Dave go for it, just as soon as you possibly can. Time waits for no one.

Remember, time is the thing that passes us by while we're trying to figure out how to have time for our dreams... ;)

Tammy,
Making the most of each moment, you are reaching your dream's goal in a wise and planned manner, not haphazardly. You will find your dream I have no doubts!
You set a fine example to finding happiness.

Time does slip away and I try so hard to grab a second of every moment I can....
I am smiling as I read your entry. It only supports my thoughts of just how smart the two of you are my friend.
Go for it...laugh, cry and roll with it.
it is life and the only chnace we have.
Love you BIG!
TJ
PS. Is that baby ever growing fast. He is so healthy and happy. How cool is that! Lucky aren't we?

Tammy,
Your writing always humbles me and gives me a much needed self check.

I can't wait to hear about your journey to VT. Have you ever been?
I venture to say you'll love it.

Thoughts,
Tori

You're so inspiring, Tammy. With or without illness, the way you live your life is the way we all should - take advantage of every moment; take nothing for granted - and go for our dreams. I'm so pleased you'll get to visit Vermont and Pam! What a special birthday treat. I'm also loving your slideshow - so many wonderful photos - the TK "phone home" shot is too precious for words. And all the little boys in your family are adorable - what a cutie that Dimitri is! xo

Oh yes....I try very hard to live by this philosophy. In fact, I opened a bottle of our wine from Italy (had just 2) the other night, explaining just that we need not wait for a "special occasion".... now is special.

Hey, when you go to VT...you gonna stop in NY by any chance? (no kidding) I would SO do anything to see you.

Love and kisses,
nancy

Using the prompt to relate to time slipping away has me in chills. you WILL figure out a way to fulfill all your dreams Tammy and while you're figuring you are inspiring many to do the same. I am still trying to "figure out a nice living on less income". If you find a solution, please let me know. I don't think we will ever afford Retirement. If now is the "right time for you to go after your dreams" As Rocky said so well......"go for it!!" sending only good wishes. :))

This was so timely Tammy. I've been wasting time recently and needed this reminder to do more than just dream. Thank you.

Tammy...thanks for sharing what you know. You gave us a clear and balanced view of making some movement each day in the direction our heart is leaning. Sometimes I think we are our dreams. I'm not even sure what that means and yet it feels like the true dreams already exist inside us and we're just working them out. There is nothing to wait for.
