Encyclopedia of Me - "D"

I have always been a DARING person who likes an occasional adrenaline rush. I don't do danger but I like to push the envelope just a tad. This has always been a part of my personality and being 45 with ALS has not taken that away. I think my ALS has made me more daring.

Growing up I camped in the wild where there were no bathrooms or running water. I learned to snow ski on moguls that were as high as my waist. Water skied on one ski and learned to make huge fan turns. Fished while standing in a swift moving river, 7mos pregnant. Loved the biggest and scariest rides at the numerous amusement parks I attended. Learned to surf in Hawaii on my high school graduation trip and worked at a gun range where I shot 12 gauge shotguns.

Once I was diagnosed I still camped but now I use a tent potty and an off the ground air mattress. I use my walker in rough terrain to get down an enbankment for the best fishing spots. Dave and I went river rafting on our third date (mild river but no guide). I swam and learned to snorkel in the ocean on my honeymoon in Kauai using a blow up raft. Took a helicopter ride all over the island on my first trip to Kauai. I rode a wave runner in the ocean in Mexico. I won a gold medal in disabled sailing even though the boat flipped in a practice round. I took a bi-plane ride over my house and we did a dive into the canyon in my backyard (my stomach stayed in my throat for a week). Not to mention I still love the rides at amusement parks. I want to try snowmobiles, disabled snow skiing and disabled horse back riding once I move towards Tahoe.

I'd call that pretty daring aside from being a parent and wife. ;)

Daring! I should say. I've never done ANY of those things....

Rides at amusement parks make me sick. You should've seen me after my experience at the Star Wars thing at D'land this summer.

But I really do admire your wild streak!

I'm with Pep--aside from the wild amusement rides (of which I'm not a big fan), I've never done those things. More power to you, Tammy! I hope you won't get so busy doing all those new things in Tahoe that you stop checking in here with photos so we can share in your daring fun :)

Daring is certainly a word I would use to describe you!

I must say Daring was definately the word for you with D. I am so much the opposite. I used to be more daring, but now amusement park rides, helicopter rides, and snow sports put me over the edge!!

You are definitely more of a woman than I am! I certainly don't have an adventurous spirit the way you do! That kind of spirit makes you very attractive to the opposite sex! I am so impressed with your abilities that trump your disabilities! You go girl!

You're amazing!! I'm not at all daring! I have white water rafted, but that's about as daring as I get! I'm impressed!! :)

I'm impressed too!!

Oh, I am SO the opposite of you. Never skiied, never fished, never rafted, never on a roller-coaster, camping only with all the creature-comforts! I admire your wild and daring spirit so much. It's a wonder to witness.

Wow, I'm impressed!

DARING is a bit of an understatement! "Fishing" seems rather boring compared to the rest, or were you fishing for shark with your bare hands?

I am continuously amazed at you and all you do. I've never done any of those things (such a coward!)

Dynamic, daunting, dazzling, delightful...you are all of these "D's" and more!

Hi Tammy- thanks for checking in on me... it's nice to know someone cares :)
I'd say you are very daring! I don't think of myself as so but my husband makes me do the wildest stuff. I go kicking and screaming all the way, but after it is done, I am so happy I did it! We went white water rafting in Alaska- pretty rough areas, too- and I can't swim, so I was scared most of the time, but by the end, I wanted to do it all over again!
And then we did the Sky Coaster in Orlando- talk about stomach in throat! Oh, gosh... this really made me smile as I thought about all the crazy stuff we did!
You are a love, Tammy!
xoxo
