Rockin' Chair Writer's Club - Prose

Brian has stepped up for Ron of "Writer's Island" who is taking a break until September. Brian's prompt for "Rockin' Writer's Club" is "What's really on your mind?"

Eight thousand dry lightning strikes has set California on fire. The erratic winds sending embers in flight, the heat wave fueling the fires, the smoke stealing the sun, the daisies curling into a fist, are a hell we cannot escape. The smoke permeates inside and out, making us prisoners in our home's, filling our lung's with second hand smoke, summer has become silent. Most importantly the brave firefighters risking their lives, while the people valiantly try to save their dreams, all these moments show the power of nature, of those who will chose to survive, the patience to endure or to simply pray.

At one time California has had 1043 fires that were active. I am not in a fire danger zone but how can the smoke not effect my lungs after more than a week. It's very hard to think about much else when you have evacuated family members, simply waiting. The National Guard is here to help but the visibility is making it tough to fight the fire from the air. Keep California in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks Tammy for sharing the prompt this week. I hope the fires don't destroy too much as they always seem to do.

Everyone else is welcome to stop by and share your thoughts for this prompt.

Times like these really bring out what matters most to us - and how vulnerable we are to our environments.

Reading your "about Tammy" section made me think you might like a poem I wrote recently: nude

That's a good description of the deadly effects of these fires. Sadly, they have become a constant threat in California. xo

I certainly have been keeping all of you out there close in thought. I'm so glad to hear that you are out of harms way at the moment, but there are so many feeling the heat of the flames. Stay safe, friend!

I've been watching the progress on the news. Terrible!

Your prose is so beautifully poetic! The daisies curling into fists is a vivid image!

Even here in Utah the air quality is listed as Dangerous, mostly due to smoke blowing over from the California fires.

Yeah, well said, I saw the Californian fires on the tv news and you're in our thoughts and prayers over on this side of the pond.

Tammy, your writing is expressive and beautiful, even about these terrible circumstances. You are in my thoughts; I hope this situation eases soon.

I am praying for you and all of the people this terrible fire is impacting. I can't imagine the terror and the feeling like there is nothing you can do but wait. Please take care of yourself. Keep us posted.

These fires are getting worse and worse. Its a terrible situation. I remember once, when I was in the forces, we were called out to fight a rare bush fire in the UK. The smoke, the dirt in the air. It affected us all.

I suffer terribly on Lag B'Omer, bonfire night here in Israel. I can't imagine how much worse those fires must be, and my heart goes out to those in fear of losing their homes.

Yesterday and last week, I was thing about you and the fires, wondering if it was bothering your breathing. I can tell each time there is a fire in the our state, just because you can see it in the air.

I can pray for you, Tammy and will.

as a fellow californian, I sure can commiserate with you about this. The air quality, the brown dead flowers(liked the daisy fists and it's the truth!), I just hate it. I live in a high fire danger area but we have no lightening ever(fingers crossed). We were very worried over the long 4th weekend but all's well....

you have a beautiful blog :)

Tammy, you have been on my mind a lot lately. The air in my part of the valley is not great at all but I know the air is even worse where you are. Keep your head down sweetie. Annie

Totally. This summer has SUCKED with this crap. I can't breath at all. The kids are going nuts in the house. Making me nuts! *sigh*

And all our family lives in Paradise! It has been crazy for them.

Oh I am so sorry for your distress! I know they sent British Columbia fire fighters down there to help. What a sad mess. We had a fire like that in Kelowna a few years back. It's a three and a half hour drive from my place, my friends old home she built burnt down. Even though she no longer owned it, it was so sad!
