Poetry Thursday - "To Capture a Hummingbird"

To Capture a Hummingbird

He steps gently into morning light
stealthy footsteps, camera in hand
standing like a garden gnome
waiting for that elusive shot.

The cat takes her repose in the shade
tail slowly sweeping the patio
watching him as she spy's his prey
knowing of his frustration.

She knows all eyes are on her dance
as morning light creates a glow.
With fairy wings she zips in flight
draining flowers through her wand.

The man darts quietly in his chase
as she delights in his pursuit.
He waits patiently for his shot
as the heat begins to take its toll.

He leaves her to her dance undefeated
because tomorrow is another day.
Happiest in his garden, labored in love
her attraction fills him with joy.

It's a lovely poem for your dear hubby, Tammy- I can see him there, trying to capture that elusive hummingbird!
I always think that hummingbirds are little visits from angels... whenever I see one, I thank God...

Yay for both of you. The photos are wonderful; I especially like the first with the hummingbird sipping from the day lily. A very poetic description of the dance between nature and beloved.

Oh, lovely! The photos and the poem. :) I had a close encounter with a hummingbird about a year ago and managed to take some photos, myself. It was magical - a wild hummingbird actually rested in my hands for almost ten minutes before flying away into the night!

Great "dance" and photos. He must be quite the garden gnome to pull these off, or a great dancer one. You captured it quite well.

How hard it is to catch something that moves so fast -- in words and in photographs. You two have done it!

You have an eye for beauty and an ear for rhythm. :)

Incredible photos!! Dave did a great job. And Tammy, your poem so beautifully captures the scene! I can totally envision the cat's tail "sweeping the patio" and Dave quietly chasing the hummingbird around the garden.
